LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ) -- On the field of the Liberty Flames it was a future Flame that sealed a state championship for the Heritage Pioneers. Chris Megginson with just a little over a minute to go in the game picked off Phoebus’ Chris Daniels to clinch the Pioneers second state title in school history.

After that final whistle Heritage Head Coach Brad Bradley became the teams biggest hype man, hugging everyone in sight. It was the coach’s first state championship with Heritage after losing in the final game last season.

The player of the game has to go to Pioneer quarterback Jabari Blake. Three rushing touchdowns for the senior including a 69 yard scamper. He said postgame that this trophy was not only for the school but for the city of Lynchburg.

The Heritage Pioneers have worked all season for this moment. Another chance under head coach Brad Bradley to bring home a state championship. After a heartbreaking loss in last year's final to Hopewell, the Pioneers hoping to erase that memory once and for all with a win today in Lynchburg.

Heritage bursting onto the scene at Liberty University. The closest thing to home turf against Phoebus.

After a Heritage punt on the first drive, Phoebus QB Chris Daniels finds Latrelle Smith for the long 45 yard TD on fourth and 3. Phantoms lead 7-0.

First quarter still, Jabari Blake calls his own number breaks a couple of tackles and he is gone for six, 31 yards. Touchdown Pioneers ties the game at 7-7.

Second quarter, Blake again, with the repeat play. Takes it 69 yards to the house, touchdown Heritage and they take a 14-7 lead.
Nine seconds left in the first half, Luke Barredo with a 33 yard FG makes it 17-7 going into the locker room at the half.

24 Minutes away from a state championship for Heritage but they would have to fight every minute of it. Daniels again throwing deep and finds a wide open Barry Hargraves for the TD and Phoebus is down three in the third

Heritage answered back, KJ Vaughn with a big gain here reaches for the goal line but they bring him down at the one.

No matter, Jabari Blake, he's gonna take that one and punches it. His third score of the day makes it 24-14 in the fourth quarter.

Phantoms need points, Daniels throws this one in the end zone for Kymari Gray and that's a score, extra point is no good Phoebus down 4.

Heritage on the verge of closing this deal. Phoebus gets the ball back with one minute remaining but the man who is going to Liberty next fall makes the play that seals the game for the Pioneers, the pick master Chris Megginson picks off Daniels pass.

Pioneers run out the clock after that and they win it 24-20, their second state title in school history and Brad Bradley's first at the school.
