BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) -- Heading out to the NRV, Blacksburg finished the regular season a perfect 10-0 a season ago.
The Bruins' quest for a title ended in the state semis, however, and head coach Eddie Sloss says this year, the goal is to finish the job.
"We had probably the best team in the state and things just didn't go that well for us that Saturday," Sloss said. "As far as motivation, our kids just kind of took it upon themselves. The seniors are very driven. They're very motivated to get back to where we were last year and to finish what we weren't able to finish last year."
Despite losing key seniors, like quarterback Grant Johnston and electric playmaker Tiquest Terry, the Bruins will rely on the next wave of leaders to step up this year.
That group includes senior standouts Brian Mitchell and Joshua Gholston.
"There's not much that went wrong because, obviously, we went 13-1," Gholston said on last season. "But as we said, if we can just finish, that's a big part of it. Finish, finish, finish through this camp.
That's our theme, and I think it will help us going into this new year so we can just finish our games and hopefully win a state championship."
