High School Football Preview: Patrick Henry

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) -- The Patrick Henry Patriots were among the first to hit the field Thursday as Coach Alan Fiddler begins his 9th season off Grandin Road.

"We've seen them in the weight room all winter and we have been out here in the summer and we saw it was a great group of kids and you saw a lot of athletic ability," Fiddler said. "It's good to see them out here as we finally start to put the pads on in a couple days so it's great to be back."

Fiddler says his team should be much better defensively than last year when they played a ton of shootouts. He welcomes back quarterback Roy Gunn, now a junior who gained some valuable experience as a sophomore.

"It's always exciting when you have got a quarterback back with a lot of experience," Fiddler said. "He's still a young guy, but he started 11 football games and he played pretty good as a sophomore so we expect him to take another jump for us.

Friday Football Extra begins at 11 p.m. on August 30 on WDBJ7.
