Liberty shows off up-tempo pace at Spring Game

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) The Liberty Flames football team is coming off of two consecutive 6-5 seasons, but come this fall, the Flames are hoping to get back to the FCS playoffs, in their final year as an FCS team. The school will be competing as an FBS program in 2018.

Throughout Liberty's Spring Game on Saturday, the Flames kept up a noticeable up-tempo pace. And that pace was what Head Coach, Turner Gill, wanted to see.

"Well, I thought it was pretty good," said Gill. "Once the ball has been marked down, can we get the ball snapped within 10 seconds? And there were a couple of times where we did that, but overall, I thought it was solid and good."

"It felt great," agreed Sophomore Quarterback, Stephen Calvert. "We came out and executed what we've been practicing all week. The receivers were running, getting open. I thought it was a pretty good, competitive scrimmage."

Sophomore Running Back and Lynchburg native, Frankie Hickson, scored two touchdowns on the day.

"You want to get in the end zone and score points, but particularly, touchdowns," said Hickson. "That's what our offense is predicated on. We've put big players in big places to make big plays. Just to see that come to fruition, is amazing."
