Local high school teams compete for state championships

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) -- Several local teams cooked up state titles as the sun beat down in Salem and Radford during yesterday's championships.

Soccer:

In soccer, the undefeated class four Blacksburg boys dominated Grafton with a 6-0 win to claim their thirteenth state title.

Another 6-0 shutout came from the Galax boys' soccer team to win the class one championship against Rappahannock.

In class three, the Cave Spring boys bringing home the first ever soccer state championship for a Roanoke public school. Marc Sharrer scored the lone goal in the 69th minute to give the Knights a 1-0 victory over York.

Lacrosse:

E.C. Glass won the class four boys' lacrosse title 12-8 over Dominion.

Baseball:

Salem's Matt Wright hit the walkoff run against Jamestown to keep the class four trophy at home with the 2-1 victory.

Tennis:

Auburn wins 4-2 over Rappahannock for the class one title.

Cave Spring powers over James Monroe 5-1 to earn the class three trophy.
