SALEM, Va. (WDBJ7)-- It was a packed house at Salem Stadium for the blockbuster matchup.
Early on Martinsburg in control. Elijah Banks calls his own number and gets stacked up at the line before fighting his way in on the score and it's 7-nothing Martinsburg.
The Spartans muffed the kickoff and the Bulldogs went looking for more but Banks gets picked off at the 2 by Salem's Jeffrey Phillips to avoid further damage. The teams combined for 5 first quarter turnovers.
Salem had something cooking in the red zone but Hunter Chaney gives it right back. He's intercepted by Trey Sine and he gets the nice little return back out near midfield.
It took the Bulldogs just three plays to score. It's Kevon Warren right up the gut, slicing and dicing and Martinsburg led 14-zip after one.
In the second quarter, Salem gives it to Isaiah Persinger. He turns the corner and sprints inside the 10 yard line.
Three plays later, Cameron Leftwich gets the call and he plows in behind the offensive line to get the Spartans on the board.
But Martinsburg kept coming. Banks up top for Jarod Bowie in the endzone. The Bulldogs led 28-7 at the half and went on to hand the Spartans their first loss this season 49 to 14 with their 50th straight win.
