BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) -- The NCAA has denied Virginia Tech offensive line transfer Brock Hoffman's appeal for immediate eligibility this season, according to a team spokesperson.

Hoffman left Coastal Carolina for VT in the offseason to be closer to his ailing mother, Stephanie, in Statesville, North Carolina. She was diagnosed with acoustic neuroma, a non-cancerous brain tumor, in 2017.

"While extremely disappointed in this final decision by the NCAA, Virginia Tech Athletics and the football staff will continue to provide our unwavering support and compassion to Brock and his family," the program said in a release.

Hoffman was a two-year starter at Coastal Carolina, playing both center and guard.
