Private school bragging rights were up for grabs Friday at Vinyard Park where North Cross and Roanoke Catholic figured to go down to the wire after playing a thriller last season.
Bob Price and the Celtics started quickly in this one. Bryant Guilfoyle with the handoff to Elamin Shareef and he barrels his way across the goal line as Catholic struck first to make it 6-nothing.
Following two penalties on the two point try, Guifoyle can't find anyone open so he decides to tuck and run, scooting in and it was 8-zip Celtics.
Catholic driving again early in second thanks to a Raiders fumble and Guilfoyle puts it up for Alex Vaught who makes the grab in the red zone for a key conversion. That led to this. Kawaun Ray scores a short yardage TD and another two pointer put the Celts up 16-nothing.
But North Cross got on the board when Gabe Zappia's pass gets tipped but goes right to Zae Baines who finds the endzone. The Raiders went for 2 and it was 16-8 at the break.
Roanoke Catholic won 42 - 22.
