BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) -- Virginia Tech head football coach Justin Fuente has been linked as a candidate for the same position at Arkansas, according to multiple reports.
Last week, Dan Wolken of USA Today wrote, "One name that has consistently come up as a potential target is Virginia Tech’s Justin Fuente," in reference to the Razorbacks job.
Arkansas fired its previous head coach, Chad Morris, in November after going 4-18 in 22 games.
Wolken listed Fuente's family ties to nearby Oklahoma as a possible draw, adding he could also "get away from a Virginia Tech fan base that hasn’t completely appreciated how difficult a job he faced after Frank Beamer let the program slip over his final few years."
On Monday, 247Sports reported Fuente, along with Iowa State's Matt Campbell and Florida Atlantic's Lane Kiffin, headlined the list of possible candidates for the Arkansas position.
"Arkansas could undoubtedly offer Fuente more than the $4 million a year he currently makes," Wolken wrote.
Fuente's former defensive coordinator at Memphis, Barry Odom, was recently fired from his head coaching position at Missouri. Odom's name has also been linked to a possible reunion with Fuente, in either Blacksburg or Fayetteville.
In four seasons at Virginia Tech, Fuente has gone 33-19. His Hokies have been bowl eligible in all four years. The team will find out its 2019 bowl game destination on Sunday.
