Radford University honors former basketball coach Joe Davis

RADFORD, Va. (WDBJ7) Radford University paid tribute to one of its most instrumental basketball coaches Thursday at the Dedmon Center, officially naming the Highlanders' basketball office suite for former hoops coach Joe Davis and his wife, Anne.

Plenty of former players were on hand to honor Davis, who led the Highlanders for 10 seasons between 1978 and 1988, overseeing the program's transition from the NAIA ranks to Division One. He posted nine winning seasons in those 10 years, including a 23-4 mark in his first season on the job, leaving the school as the all time winningest coach. Davis also spent time on the bench at Ferrum, and at the high school level here in the Valley at Cave Spring and Glenvar.

"I don't even think I could put it into words and like I said it doesn't have to do with the fact that Anne and I have our name on the office," Davis said. "It's because by seeing our names that means that all of these support folks and all of our friends and all of the people who have meant so much to the program, that recognizes their accomplishments too."
