ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) -- University of Virginia sophomore Jack Montague carded rounds of 66 on Friday and Saturday to force a playoff with Virginia Tech's Mark Lawrence at the Delta Dental State Open of Virginia.
Montague's par on the first playoff hole sealed a victory for the Richmond native, who took home the trophy at Ballyhack Golf Club on Saturday.
"I've known Mark for a long time. He actually used to play at Hermitage which is where I play so I've known him for a while and he's obviously a great player and it was really cool being in a playoff with him," Montague said.
"I was just fortunate to end up on the winning side of it today. I played some really good golf this weekend. I hit it really close and luckily I made some putts the last two days. It was awesome and a lot of fun out there. It definitely gives me a lot of confidence going into the fall season. There are a lot of positives to take away from this week. I'm really excited about it."
