UVA looks ahead to meeting with North Carolina

It was a successful weekend for both the Hokies and the 'Hoos on the football field, as both teams earned their first wins in conference play. And for that, the ACC took notice of their efforts.

Virginia Tech freshman receiver, Sean Savoy earned Rookie of the Week honors, for stepping up big when Cam Phillips went out with an injury at Boston College. Savoy hauled in nine catches for 139 yards and a touchdown, and his 139 receiving yards were the most for a Hokie freshman in the last 20 years.

UVA safety, Quin Blanding, was named the ACC Defensive Back of the Week. The senior had eight tackles and a 58-yard interception returned for a touchdown against Duke.

The Cavaliers will look to make it a tobacco-road sweep, as they head to North Carolina to take on the Tar Heels this Saturday.

"Our mindset then, from that team, was we just two more games and then we're there," said Junior Linebacker, Chris Peace. "But this year, we're not thinking like that, not at all. It's like we're 0-0, and we're just trying to get one game at a time."

Head Coach, Bronco Mendenhall, said, "Any momentum can be extinguished, and there's so much emotional investment into week, and one game, or one win, or one loss doesn't determine the outcome of a season.">>
