Virginia Tech to unveil monument of legendary coach Frank Beamer

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ7) -- Former Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer is set to be enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame later this year, but the Hokie faithfuls are honoring him on Saturday.

A ceremony saluting the legacy that Beamer left on Virginia Tech, as well as his lasting contributions to the game of college football is being planned around a primetime, top-25 match-up vs. sixth-ranked Notre Dame on Oct. 6.

Full details of how Beamer will be honored has not been released yet, but according to a release from Virginia Tech, a monument in his honor will be unveiled at Moody Plaza in the southwest corner of Lane Stadium adjacent to Beamer Way.

According to Virginia Tech, the monument will be a life-size bronze figure, and will have a bench for fans to sit and take photos. The figure was financed by private gifts to the university.

The monument is scheduled to be unveiled at 4:45 p.m. Kickoff time for the big game is 8 p.m.
