CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The UVA Men's Basketball team returned to Charlottesville on Sunday and celebrated a Final Four berth with fans at Davenport Field.

This Final Four appearance this upcoming weekend will be the first in 35 years.

Head Coach Tony Bennett was excited to see the number of fans welcoming the team back to Charlottesville.

"I'm humbled that and they didn't have to come out here but they did," he said. "It's great. It's what you try to build when to come, you always hope something like this can happen."

Bennett said when he became the coach of the team in 2009, there were a few fans that supported them. But now, the fan support is outstanding.

"There were some faithful fans, but to see this program grow and how much they appreciate the kind of young men that we have here and how we try to play the game, when the shot clock is going down and the crowd's cheering and they are an educated crowd," said Bennett. "Now there's like 4,000 or 5,000 people on the wait list for season tickets and it's great."

He and some of the players thanked the fans for their support throughout the season.

"We just wanted to say thank you on behalf of the team for this right here," said third-year guard Kyle Guy. "This is pretty much why we put our jersey on every night, why we lace them up and we're so thankful to be able to bring a Final Four to you guys."

Bennett encourages fans to continue cheering them on as they get ready for the Final Four.

"Thank you and those who can be there, we'll love to have you there and those who will be watching and pulling, we're going to do everything we can and lay it on the line for you," said Bennett.
