For the first time in four decades the William Byrd Terriers have a new football coach. Brad Lutz takes over for Jeff Highfill, after spending the past 10 seasons at Broadway, north of Harrisonburg. Lutz took his new team for a three day mini camp at Shrine Mont in the Shenandoah Valley to start the season, and he hopes the trip will pay dividends down the road.

"We got three days away off the grid," said Lutz. "No cell phones, no tv, no air condition. We had a lot of football, answered a lot of football questions, but we had time just to spend to ourselves. We had pool time, we hung out on the front porch of the cottages and just talked about things that didn't have anything to do with football, so it was a great way for us to kind of start of this era which we've got some new coaches, new players, and guys that are trying to mesh and build some chemistry within the locker room."
