Franklin County recycling fire under control
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - A fire at a metal recycling plant in Franklin County has been controlled, according to Franklin County Public Safety.
No cause has been determined for the fire that was reported Thursday morning at the Omni Source plant. Fire crews say, “A deep seated fire required hours of intense labor, coordination, and a lot of water to bring the incident under control.”
The burning debris pile was 40 feet high and 100 feet long, according to firefighters.
There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. The fire is under investigation by the Franklin County Fire Marshal’s Office.
Firefighters from Franklin County Public Safety, every fire company within Franklin County, units from Henry County, and units from Pittsylvania County battled the fire for nearly eight hours, according to FCPS. Bedford County Engine 8 (Moneta) covered the center of the county for other emergencies.
