Lexington Mayor hospitalized; City Council meeting canceled

LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ) - Lexington’s City Council canceled its regular meeting July 2, 2026, in the wake of Mayor Frank Friedman being hospitalized.

Council members Marylin Alexander and Chuck Smith confirmed the information with WDBJ7, but had no information to release about why he was hospitalized or what his condition is.

Carilion Clinic confirms he is at Roanoke Memorial.

Friedman was elected Mayor in 2016. His current term is set to end in December 2028.
