Trump suggests $10,000 bonuses for air traffic controllers who kept working during the government shutdown
(Gray News) - President Donald Trump ordered all air traffic controllers to “get back to work,” and suggested $10,000 bonuses for those who continued working during the government shutdown.
“All Air Traffic Controllers must get back to work, NOW!!!” Trump said on Truth Social. “Anyone who doesn’t will be substantially ‘docked.’”
Trump said in the post that he would recommend a $10,000 bonus for air traffic controllers who did not take time off during the shutdown.
Air traffic controllers have continued to work without pay during the government shutdown because they are essential personnel. However, some have not shown up, citing stress and the need to look for other work.
As a result, the Federal Aviation Administration has cut flights to ease pressure on air traffic controllers.
“For those that did nothing but complain, and took time off, even though everyone knew they would be paid, IN FULL, shortly into the future, I am NOT HAPPY WITH YOU,” Trump said.
The Senate took a first step toward ending the shutdown Sunday, but final passage could still be several days away.
