Man who said he was released after questioning in Nancy Guthrie case wants an apology
RIO RICO, Ariz. (CNN) - A man in Rio Rico, Arizona, who said he was detained Tuesday for questioning in the investigation of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance said he feels he is owed an apology.
“Something I didn’t do. Yeah, especially the way they acted. I know it’s their job to do what they’re doing, but to an innocent man?” the man, who is only identifying himself as Carlos, said. “And I think they don’t even have evidence against me, so I don’t even know how they got to me.”
Arizona authorities released Carlos, who was questioned about the disappearance of the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie.
The man was detained Tuesday during a traffic stop south of Tucson, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said.
Carlos said he was shocked when agents told him he was being detained for kidnapping.
“Once I saw they were following me, I pulled over. They didn’t even have to put a traffic stop or anything. I got out the car and they arrested me as soon as I got out of the car,” Carlos said. “They didn’t even tell me what was going on until the detectives got here like two hours before I got arrested, and then the detectives got here. It was the FBI agent in the Santa Cruz County, and they told me I was being detained for kidnapping. And I asked them, ‘Kidnapping of who?’ And they told me this lady. I don’t know her name.”
Carlos said he does not know Nancy Guthrie.
“I told them I work in Tucson for GLS. I might have delivered a package to her house, but I never kidnapped anybody,” Carlos added.
Carlos is not facing any charges.
“They told my mother-in-law. They showed her a video because they said that my eyes and my eyelashes look the same,” Carlos said. “To clear my name, that’s all I want.”
Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts remain unknown.
The FBI previously said it is looking at persons of interest in the case.
