SALEM, Va. (WDBJ) - Roanoke College has launched an initiative designed to train employees and professionals on how to use artificial intelligence tools to improve workplace efficiency.

The seven-week program, called the “Work AI Lab,” focuses on helping participants understand how AI can benefit them in their jobs.

Logan Hammerschmitt, director of co-curricular innovation and creativity at Roanoke College, said the goal is for people to see AI as an asset rather than a threat.

“I think that so much of our work today is caught up in tedious minutiae. And if we can take some of that and offload it to these tools, we’ll make ourselves more efficient, we’ll be able to do more meaningful work, we’ll be able to improve people’s lives,” Hammerschmitt said. “And ultimately, that’s what I want to see is people harnessing these cutting edge frontier technologies to make people’s lives and the world better.”

Hammerschmitt said the cohort is designed for professionals across industries, including employees at existing organizations, nonprofit workers and startup founders who want to build AI skills and bring them back to their teams.

The program launches Sept. 3. The standard price for the seven-week program is $2,000. Early bird pricing of $1,700 is available through July 15.
