One dead in Halifax County vehicle crash

HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - One person died in a single-vehicle crash in Halifax County Saturday, December 27, 2025, according to the Virginia State Police.

57-year-old Kendrick Nakeith Powell of Halifax was driving a Chevy Camaro. The driver drove off the right side of Oak Level Rd, overcorrecting before overturning approximately 1.5 miles south of Mountain Rd., according to VSP.

Powell was transported to a hospital, where he died of his injuries, according to troopers.

Preliminary investigations indicated speed was a contributing factor. Powell was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to investigators.
