Lynchburg city council candidate seeks faster solution to Heritage High School issue

A candidate for Lynchburg City Council is promising a faster solution to a widely-debated school construction issue.

Turner Perrow is running for re-election.  He has represented Ward IV since 2008.

Most students in Perrow's district are attending or will attend Heritage High School, a building that's known for its leaky roof and numerous decay-related problems.  City council members have talked about renovating or rebuilding Heritage by 2018.

Perrow wants a faster timetable that would have improvements to the school finished by 2016.  He wants to use his civil engineering background to find cost-effective ways for upgrading Heritage, without a large tax increase.

"The Heritage students and their families deserve prompt action with Heritage High School," said Perrow.  "We've got to do that in a fiscally responsible way, and we've got to do it in a way that produces a structurally sound, quality building.

No other candidate has currently filed paperwork to run against Perrow in Ward IV, according to Lynchburg registrar Carolyn Sherayko.

City Council elections are scheduled for May 1.
