National signing day for college football is on Wednesday and the final push is on to get as many blue chip recruits as possible.
The destinies of high school football players across the country are about to be signed, sealed and delivered. Rabid Virginia Tech fans will hit their knees and pray that touted recruits grab the maroon cap.
But that result ultimately hinges on the prowess of Jim Cavanaugh, Director of Recruiting for the Hokies. He says to landing the best talent in the country you don't have to travel very far.
"We'd love to win the National Championship with 22 starters from Virginia," Cavanaugh states. "There is enough talent in this state that we can make a living here."
The Commonwealth has produced some of Tech's most illustrious stars, and Coach Cav refuses to let a single one escape his grasp.
"We have a rule of thumb, we will never, ever, pass up a great player in the state of Virginia."
Cavanaugh expects to sign another strong class this year. But after 41 years coaching college football, nothing would surprise him.
"Funny things happen on the way to the forum. Let's just see how everything goes Wednesday morning."
