ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - The American Red Cross responds to an emergency every 8 minutes. From small house fires to multi-state natural disasters, the American Red Cross goes wherever it is needed, so people can have clean water, safe shelter, and hot meals when they need them most.

Jackie Grant, Executive Director for the American Red Cross, joins us on Here @ Home to talk about the upcoming hurricane season, which begins June 1.

It is predicted to be an active season, so she discusses what to do and how to stay safe in the event of an emergency. It’s important to prepare for possible emergencies because they can strike suddenly and violently at any time and any place.

Watch as Jackie goes through the necessities you will want to have on hand during an emergency.
