Wytheville man arrested in NC on felony prescription drug theft charges

WYTHEVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) - A Virginia man wanted on more than 15 felony charges involving the theft of prescription narcotics from a nursing home has been arrested in Iredell County, North Carolina.

After receiving information from the Wytheville Police Department, detectives with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division began investigating to locate Brian Travis Wingler, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Wingler was taken into custody at a home in Iredell County July 9.

Detectives report they seized multiple prescription medications from the home. The Sheriff’s Office says those medications are being reviewed by the Wytheville Police Department to determine whether they are connected to medications reported stolen in Virginia.

Wingler is being held on a $75,000 secured bond while awaiting extradition to Virginia. The Sheriff’s Office says additional charges are expected.

Information on specifics involving the drug thefts has not been released.
