ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - Roanoke County Parks and Recreation knows how to help kids make the most of their time off.

It’s again offering spring break camp at Green Ridge Recreation Center for kids ages five to 11.

“The days are filled with a full day of activities. From about 7 in the morning until 6 in the evening, parents can drop off their kids and we have a full slate of activities to offer. That includes time in our gymnasium, where they’ll be able to access our basketball courts, pickleball if the want and some other activities to keep them active. We have our playground outside. We’ll have STEM activities and craft activities during the day as well,” says Alex North, the Marketing and Administrative Coordinator for Roanoke County Parks, Recreation and Tourism.

Registration is also open for summer camps, including the Kids in Camp program at Green Ridge and Cave Spring Elementary.

New this summer- camps will be split by age groups.

“So, typically it’s rising kindergarten through 6th grade, due to capacity, we’re actually able to expand capacity and offer that to two different age groups.so, you’ll have kindergarten through second graders together and third through 6th graders together,” says North.

Camp includes Splash Valley and Treetop Quest, along with trips to the skating rink and movie theatre.

For kids who love the great outdoors, Camp Roanoke offers activities like hiking and climbing.

“Our staff strives to provide the best opportunity for our campers to whether learn something or take something home with them or something they can apply to when they go back to school during the school year or with their family and friends,” says North.
