ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Stress impacts people of all ages, but it can be debilitating for older loved ones.

According to the National Council on Aging, “stress negatively impacts the body’s ability to effectively respond to certain kinds of inflammation that lead to age-related conditions."

That means stress can actually worsen health issues in older people.

Carilion’s Center for Healthy Aging works to assist seniors and their families with issues to help avoid that onslaught of stress, including guidance on what medications and medical equipment are covered by insurance, what changes can make homes safer for seniors, etc.

Carilion adds that a senior’s primary health care provider can also be an “excellent resource” for information about healthy aging and reducing stress.
