NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - There is renewed hope almost three decades after a man’s life was taken too soon.

Now, the case is heating up and a local sheriff’s office is asking for your help.

“He was a funny person. He was the life of the party. He loved being with his family,” said Sandra Fitzgerald, Jeffrey Quick’s sister.

Never forgetting her brother, Sandra describes her last memories with him.

“The last thing I can remember is Mother’s Day... that we had to cook out at my mom’s and that’s the thing that we look back at now, thinking that that was just a wonderful day that we’ll never forget,” said Fitzgerald.

Quick was reported missing May 23, 1998 and hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

In light of new details, the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office believes Quick was killed close to that date. Since then, Sheriff Mark Embrey says his office has been re-examining the case.

“The problem in this case is, it’s been 27 years since Mr. Quick was reported missing and a lot can change in two, almost three decades. Most of the individuals that have been identified in reports, grand jury statements, things that we’ve uncovered, those parties are no longer alive. So that, that certainly restricts us in, in the amount of information we can get. We are speaking with several individuals that were persons of interest suspects, if you will, back in 1998 that are providing us more detailed information than they did 27 years ago,” said Mark Embrey, Nelson County Sheriff.

The sheriff’s office is hoping to locate Quick’s remains to give closure to the family. Because of new information, they believe his remains are in or nearby Henry County.

“This is one case that that we absolutely wanted to go back, take a second look at fresh set of eyes and see what we could do for the family and the community,” said Sheriff Embrey.

Both the sheriff’s office and Quick’s family are asking anyone with information to come forward.

“The smallest amount of information it could be potentially critical,” said Sheriff Embrey.

“My mom and my dad both are getting on up in age and their health is not the greatest and I just pray that someone comes through and lets us know where his remains is before something happens to my mom and dad,” said Fitzgerald.

The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office is organizing a search for Quick’s remains soon.

Anyone with information about Quick’s disappearance is asked to contact the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office. The number is: (434) 263-7069.
