ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Osteoporosis is defined as a medical condition in which the bones become brittle and fragile from loss of tissue.

Typically, experts say it’s the result of hormonal changes or deficiency of calcium or vitamin D.

But people shouldn’t wait until they’re in their advanced years to try to get ahead of the condition.

Dr. Patrick Kennedy with Balance Wellspace Integrative Medicine says “bone health is essential for mobility and independence as we age. Chiropractic care supports spinal alignment and posture, which helps prevent falls and reduces the risk of fractures—critical for aging safely at home."

Dr. Kennedy says that chiropractors can often identify early signs like postural changes, joint stiffness, and spinal compression.

So, what exactly happens during a session with a chiropractor?

“Chiropractic adjustments promote balance and joint function. Gentle, low-force techniques are used to improve movement and reduce fall risk in patients with low bone density. These treatments work hand-in-hand with other therapies in an integrative setting,” says Dr. Kennedy.
