FLOYD COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - The Loose Strings Band has deep roots in the Galax area, with its sound evolving from bluegrass to Americana.

“I would say we were heavily influenced by the Dixie Chicks and Shania Twain growing up and Alison Kraus,” says lead vocalist and mandolin player Lindsey Nale.

You can hear those influences in the harmonic melodies of The Loose Strings Band, which first started while these musicians were just in their teens.

Bandmates Lindsay Nale and Ashley Hultman are sisters from Galax.

“For Lindsey and I, where we’re siblings, we found some instruments in our grandparents’ house and decided we wanted to play. And then Channing was our neighbor growing up and we were like, hey you want to play with us,” says Hultman.

Let’s start a band!" adds Nale.

Channing Combs and Grace Davis joined, with music being part of their heritage, too

“So my dad and Grandpa both played, so I thought having jams at your house on the weekend was normal. I thought everybody did that,” says Davis.

Mary-Claire Cason was the last member to join, now a 10-year veteran of the band.

Just as their sound has evolved over the years, so have their personal lives.

“It’s also really fun to see the band- how everyone has grown in their personal lives, too. Several of us have babies now and are hoping to pass along the love for music to our kids,” says Cason.

Back in 2009, The Loose Strings Band released its first album, “Only The Beginning”.

Its most current album, “Realities” features several original songs.

Fans will get to experience their music next month, when they take the Floyd Country Store Stage next month at FloydFest 2025 Aurora.

“We’re real excited to share and hopefully, meet people who have never heard of us or heard of the Floyd Country Store,” says Nale.

“Hopefully, we can meet some new people and hopefully some new artists. I’m really excited. I have never personally been to FloydFest before. I am very excited to go,” says Combs.
