Executive order by Gov. Youngkin’s office will use AI to simplify the regulatory process
RICHMOND, Va. (WDBJ) - An executive directive by Gov. Glenn Youngkin launched “first-of-its-kind agentic artificial intelligence regulatory reduction pilot” that’ll use AI to reduce burdens when it comes to the regulatory process, the governor’s office said in a press release on Friday, July 11.
“We have made tremendous strides towards streamlining regulations and the regulatory process in the Commonwealth. Using emergent artificial intelligence tools, we will push this effort further in order to continue our mission of unleashing Virginia’s economy in a way that benefits all of its citizens,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin.
The initiative will be the first time that a government at the state level has used AI to simplify and improve efficiency of the regulatory process, according to the governor’s office.
AI will scan all regulations and guidance documents for easy and hassle-free implementation of policies by the office. AI will also be used to flag any parts of the regulations that would otherwise contradict the policy, remove redundancies and highlight areas in which policy language can be simplified, the governor’s office explained.
The use of AI will also be used by other state agencies to simplify their and meet that 25% threshold, a goal that was set by the first and 19th directives authorized by Gov. Glenn Youngkin, according to the governor’s office.
The press release mentioned that the executive directive will be a model for other states and federal agencies that are looking to reduce their regulatory burdens.
