High temperatures hit FloydFest, attendees find ways to beat the heat
FLOYD COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - Five days of a musical-mountain getaway wrapped up Sunday as Floydfest 2025 came to a close.
As festival-goers savored the last sounds of their favorite artists, there’s one thing everyone said they aren’t going to miss.
“It has been really hot and scorching every day,” said Scott Collins, a FloydFest attendee.
High temperatures over the weekend beat down on our hometowns and Floyd County was no exception, with temperatures rising into the high eighties.
“Normally in a situation like this, you worry about heat exhaustion and overwhelming kind of presence of the heat with our guests,” said Adam Berger, FloydFest’s head of medical services.
But Berger said the show must go on, and his crew came prepared. Water stations filled the campground and visitors wasted no drop filling up their bottles. Berger said his staff saw nothing new as far as heat-related illnesses go during this year’s festival.
“We see a few a day at this point that are related to that, but it hasn’t been an overwhelming concern,” explained Berger.
Others are making the most out of the sweaty situation, like Travis Powell, owner of Two Roosters Kettle Corn. He’s a returning food vendor at FloydFest, with a sign up front that reads “our drinks are super cold.”
“My dad took great pride in that sign,” joked Powell. “It’s pretty funny, it’s actually helping sell us quite a bit.”
Despite the scorching heat, it’s still the same old FloydFest that brings Collins back with friends each year.
“The heat was a little bit unfortunate, but you know, you can’t control that,” said Collins. “It’s a great way for us to get together, spend a week when we hadn’t seen each other for a long time, plus listen to some good music, get in the mountains. Just makes it for a great time.”
