ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - The traditional route of having to earn four-year college degree to become successful is no longer required, according to career experts.

There is growing availability of high-paying, in-demand jobs that don’t require a four-year college degree.

These are often referred to as “new collar” careers.

According to Tim Saunders, Deputy Director of Virginia Career Works Central Region, “these positions exist in fields like healthcare, advanced manufacturing, information technology, and skilled trades.”

Many of these jobs can be accessed through short-term training, apprenticeships, or associate degree programs.

“With so many Virginians exploring new career paths or reentering the workforce, it’s important to highlight these alternative pathways that offer strong wages and long-term stability,” says Saunders.
