BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Final ballots for the Blacksburg Mayoral race were certified Friday by Montgomery County’s Electoral Board, but things might not be over quite yet.
Michael Sutphin is the official winner, but challenger Peter Macedo, behind by just 18 votes, told WDBJ7 he’s considering a recount.
Since Macedo is behind by just 0.16% of the votes, the state would pay for a recount if it happens.
Macedo has 10 days to decide if he’s going to call for a recount.
The Abstract of Votes by the Electoral Board were:
Michael Sutphin: 5,573 votes
Peter Macedo: 5,555 votes
Sutphin was announced winner over a week after Election Day after the Electoral Board counted provisional ballots.
