Tuesdays of Honor: Wayne Fenton
A lifelong resident of Blacksburg, Fenton was drafted to the US Army right out of high school in 1965.
BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Wayne Fenton was just 18 years old and deployed to Vietnam, where he fought for his country for two years.
He married just before he left for the war and said, “What will happen to my wife if I don’t come home?”
He got malaria and was admitted to a hospital in Vietnam, where he said he ‘thought he’d seen the last flowers bloom’.
But he managed to pull through and is still thriving today! He has two sons and many friends, and loves his family.
What a story, Wayne! Thank you for serving our country and thank you to your lovely wife for her sacrifice as well.
If you’d like to honor someone who served, submit their photo and information to WDBJ7.com.
Tune in next Tuesday for another hero you won’t wanna miss.
