EARLY YEARS: Hometown father describes healing from the loss of a child, through writing
Author Rick Kiser explores the pain of experiencing a stillbirth in his book, “Forever my Son”
ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Losing a baby is an unimaginable loss.
Roanoke author, Rick Kiser channeled his own loss into a book titled “Forever My Son: A Novel”.
Kiser says his and his wife’s first child was stillborn, and he went through a hard time afterward.
He’s read books about child loss from a mother’s perspective but never from a dad who had experienced it.
“I felt I needed to be the one to write a book, a dad’s perspective of losing a child,” he says.
Even though the novel is about a fictional couple, Kiser says the emotions in it are real.
Kiser has also written a children’s book series featuring car characters titled, “Carly and Friends.”
