This Day in History: Civil War ends in Appomattox

(WDBJ) - April 9, 1865;

Robert E. Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia to Union General and future United States President, Ulysses S. Grant.

The surrender took place at the McLean farmhouse at Appomattox Court House.

This essentially ended the Civil War.
