SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (WDBJ) - The South Boston Police Department is requesting help from the public in regard to a five-year-old unsolved homicide investigation.

On the five-year anniversary of the homicide involving Raquan Malik Canada, the department said Canada’s life was taken on Gygax Ave. and the case remains unsolved despite “extensive investigative efforts.”

“Investigators continue to actively pursue leads and are asking for the public’s assistance in helping bring justice and closure to the victim’s family,” said South Boston PD.

May 13, 2021, officers responded to Gygax Ave. for reports of a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. During the investigation, personnel developed evidence and conducted numerous interviews; however, more information was needed, police say.

The department is urging anyone with information related to the case to contact the agency at 434-575-4273; it also said that even details that may have appeared insignificant at the time could now prove critical in solving the homicide.

“The Family of Raquan Canada continues to seek answers and justice for their loved one. Investigators are hopeful that renewed public attention on this anniversary will encourage witnesses or individuals with knowledge of the crime to speak with law enforcement,” police said in a press release.
