Summer safety tips for kids include bike, pool, and car reminders

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Summer break means more time outside for children and more opportunities for accidents.

LewisGale Hospital Montgomery is offering safety reminders for families.

For bike safety, families are encouraged to make sure children wear helmets, ride properly fitted bikes, and have a safe place to ride away from the street.

For pool safety, LewisGale Hospital Montgomery said bathing suit colors are a topic for families to consider, with bright and neon colors recommended.

The hospital also said a designated adult should know they are responsible for supervision around water.

Families should also make sure pools are secured when an adult is not present.

For car safety, LewisGale Hospital Montgomery said seat belt use saves lives and proper car seats can help prevent injuries.

The hospital also reminded families that cars get hot during the summer, especially those with black leather or dark interiors. Never leave a child or a pet inside a car.
