WASHINGTON (WVVA) — The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded Virginia Tech a $563,970 research grant to support technological innovations in human health.

The funding will support research into thyroid ablation systems, a minimally invasive procedure that uses ultrasound imaging to direct radio waves toward benign thyroid nodules.

“Scientific discoveries contribute to new treatments and better health outcomes,” U.S. Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA) said. “This HHS grant for more than $560,000 helps Virginia Tech use research results to better inform American scientists, doctors, and patients.”
