Historical Amherst County manor to be auctioned off
Edloe Glades Manor, built in 1826, will go on the auction block this month.
AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - A 200-year-old Amherst County property will be put into the hands of a new owner this month when it’s sold at auction.
The Edloe Glades Manor sits off Earley Farm Road.
Residents of the manor watched the surrounding area evolve over two centuries.
“Even before Amherst had a traffic light (and) a traffic circle, when it was still becoming what we know and love as Amherst County now, this history started here in this house,” said Mason Thomas, co-owner of T&T Realty and Auction.

The manor has been in the hands of several different families.
Thomas and Mark Tomlin, both co-owners of T&T Realty and Auction, are overseeing the property’s sale.
They said the property needs some updating but is liveable.
The manor was originally built in 1826 by the Camm family. In the 1960s, the Earley family built an additional wing and had French-inspired furniture shipped from New Orleans.
Inside, the house is decorated with an antique piano, vintage chandeliers and historical murals.
At auction, several buildings will be sold, including the manor, a carriage house and a cottage, totaling 16 acres.
“It is being auctioned off now because it’s time for a new life,” Thomas said. “It’s time for a new vision. It’s time to have another Earley family from the 1950s, now 2026, to come in to revitalize it, to make it what it was known for then.”
Tomlin said the property has gotten a lot of interest, including buyers from other countries.
“It means that it’s very unique,” Tomlin said. “The possibility of what can come next, what can be here next: wedding venue, event venue, a retreat of some sort, (an) Airbnb. There’s a ton of opportunity here.”
The auction is scheduled for September 18. The starting bid is $250,000.
