Hokies legend Michael Vick leads Norfolk State to UVa Friday night
The Spartans versus Cavaliers will be Vick’s first time on the sidelines in Charlottesville since 1999

NORFOLK, Va. (WDBJ) - The last time Michael Vick stepped onto the Scott Stadium field in Charlottesville, it was 1999, and Vick’s Hokies had dismantled UVa, 31-7, en route to an undefeated regular season and the Sugar Bowl.
Now, Vick returns, this time as the head coach of Norfolk State, as the Spartans (1-1) play #25 UVa (1-0) Friday night. With him, former Hokies players and Lynchburg natives Cornell Brown and Andre Kendrick come with him as assistant coaches.
“I think it is a full-circle moment,” Vick said Tuesday. “Any time I envision UVA or picture UVA, I think about when I was recruited. I think about the great players that played there, I think about Ronald Curry and him being recruited there and Ahmad Hawkins and all these great players.”
Vick’s Spartans are 1-1 on the year, with a loss to Old Dominion last week, 31-10. NSU was within a touchdown in the third quarter, until Old Dominion found their footing late. Still, Vick knows how important this game is for his team, not just for wins and losses, but to see just how good they truly are.
Vick adds “To be able to go against (UVa) and play against them, I know the caliber of ball they are capable of playing.”
Kickoff Friday night between Norfolk State and Virginia is set for 7:00pm.
