UPDATE: WVU police serve search warrants at 2 fraternities amid hazing investigations
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WDTV) — WVU Police served search warrants Monday night at two fraternity locations as part of ongoing hazing investigations, drawing a large crowd of students.
According to WVU Police, officers served warrants at:
- 670 N. High St., the Lambda Chi Alpha house. Lambda Chi was placed on interim suspension Oct. 9 following anonymous hazing allegations.
- 117 Belmar Ave., the Pi Kappa Alpha house, a registered fraternity
Video from the scene showed multiple officers going in and out of the house on North High Street carrying items, including bags and what appears to be a computer, while students stood nearby watching.
On the anonymous social media app YikYak, videos were posted from the Monday night incident. One video appears to show people being detained by police inside the Lambda Chi house through a window. Another video shows two people being escorted out the front of the house in restraints. We shared the videos from YikYak with WVU officials, who stated they could not provide any additional information after their initial statement issued Tuesday morning, but they emphasized that there was no confirmation of an arrest or arrests made by WVU Police.
WVU Police said local law enforcement agencies supported the searches Monday night. Officials said no other details will be released at this time due to the nature of the investigations, but updates will be provided as they become available.
The searches follow a campus warning issued Oct. 6 after multiple reports of alleged hazing involving at least two fraternities. The university later said it had no additional information to share and directed students to its hazing prevention and reporting resources.
