Neighbors react to woman shot in Southeast Roanoke
Roanoke Police say gunshots killed a woman a little before 1:15 a.m. Sunday morning on the 900 block of Morehead Avenue Southeast.
A neighbor says he heard a woman scream, 'help me,' before a gunshot fired. Police stayed on the scene investigating from around 1 in the morning to 1 in the afternoon
Police say the victim lived here 922 Morehead Avenue, but that's not where neighbors say she was shot.
"Where the edge of that driveway is and that grass stain is, where like that black mark in the road is, where that splatter looks, she was literally laying on the curb," neighbor Jasper Henderson said as he pointed to a spot in front of a house with an open gate. Neighbors say no one lives in that house currently.
Henderson lives across the street from where he says the shooting happened, which is a block up the road from her house. He didn't hear the gunshots and only found out about it from his sister's fiancé.
"I was upstairs playing my game, and I had been up there for a good hour or so, and he comes into the room out of nowhere and is like, I have to give you hug, and I'm just like, what happened?" Henderson said.
He has lived in the area for about a year and a half. "For the most part, it is a nice, decent neighborhood," he said.
Another neighbor said she's lived on the street for 58 years and hasn't seen any other shootings.
The investigation is ongoing and no one has been arrested. Roanoke Police ask you to call them with any information related to the shooting.
