Blacksburg Mayoral runner-up plans to ask for recount

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - The man who lost the race for Blacksburg Mayor plans to ask the registrar’s office for a recount.

Final ballots for the November 4 election have been certified by Montgomery County’s Electoral Board, with Peter Macedo losing to winner Michael Sutphin by 18 votes. He told WDBJ7 the morning of November 18 he wants a recount.

With Macedo behind by just 0.16% of the votes, the state would pay for a recount.

The final vote count was:

Michael Sutphin: 5,573 votes

Peter Macedo: 5,555 votes
