Mayor of Lexington passes away, city manager says

LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ) - Lexington City Mayor Frank Friedman passed away on Thursday evening, July 2, 2026, according to City Manager Tom Carroll.

In a statement to WDBJ7, Carroll said:

A scheduled Lexington City Council meeting in was canceled in the wake of Friedman being hospitalized, Council members Marylin Alexander and Chuck Smith told WDBJ7.

Friedman was elected Mayor in 2016.
