ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - A Roanoke family is still waiting for justice years after their loved one’s death.

Their worst fear is that Dontae Taylor will be forgotten and his killer will keep walking free.

“It’s been over four years since he’s been gone and they still haven’t found his killer yet,” said Taylor’s brother.

Taylor’s family gathers every year to remember him around the anniversary of his death.

There’s one question leaving a hole in their hearts. “Who killed Dontae Taylor?”

“He was just an innocent little guy just walking down the street, never bothered anybody,” said Alexsis Taylor, Taylor’s older sister.

Taylor was shot in the middle of the afternoon September 11, 2020. His family tells WDBJ7 he was walking to a store with two other people when he was gunned down. He was just 22 years old.

“It makes me feel angry, sad, words just cant explain it,” described Juan Taylor, Taylor’s mother.

Taylor left two young children behind.

“One he didn’t even get the time to spend, that he was so excited about. His son. Now they’re left with no father,” said Juan Taylor.

Another year of grieving him, not knowing who took him away.

“It’s still been bothering me, I try not to think about it,” said Brittany Taylor, Taylor’s younger sister.

Roanoke Police Department says there is forensic evidence available that they’re hoping will lead to a suspect in the future.

“The Roanoke Police Department echoes the family’s continuing concern for the victim and the desire to see the perpetrator of this crime to be identified and held accountable through the court of law.”

Until then, the Taylor family will be waiting for an answer.
