ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - The purrfect combination for coffee and cat lovers could be heading to Roanoke. A one-stop shop to sip on a cup of coffee and find a new furry friend.

Kelsey Eutsler and Stephanie Green are long-time veterinary professionals. They are hoping to help with the overcrowding crisis shelters are facing by opening The Toebean Cat Café. It will be a unique spot where people can hang out with adoptable cats in a non-shelter environment while grabbing a cup of joe.

They are in the process of raising funds to open a location in the city.

“We will pull about 12 cats from a local rescue, potentially Angels of Assisi and the Regional Center for Animal Care & Protection (RCACP). Just whenever they get to a point when they are too full. So, it will be those cats. They will be fully vetted. Every one will be fixed,” said Green.

“Just aside from the actual need for cats to get homes and needing them to be adopted, we know that animals bring stress relief, we know that being around cats can help people with their mental health, with physical health, with just feeling better overall. I think it would be a great addition to the community,” said Eutsler.

A benefit concert to help fund the café will be held at The Spot on Kirk Saturday, March 16. Doors open at 7 p.m. The show begins at 7:30pm.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.
