Craig County man indicted for child pornography charges, trial set for August
CRAIG COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - A man from New Castle has been indicted for several felony charges involving child pornography. 34-year-old Matthew Wilson was indicted by a grand jury Monday.
Wilson is charged with two counts of filming a nonconsenting nude minor, possession of child pornography and production of child pornography of a minor under 15. A grand jury returned a true bill on all the charges.
The Craig County Sheriff’s Office arrested Wilson in December. Wilson was associated with Craig County Schools as a mechanical contractor who was occasionally on school grounds.
During a court hearing in April, prosecutors said Wilson recorded and kept an explicit video of a girl. The defense said filming was accidental and that Wilson didn’t intend for his camera to capture the child.
A search warrant obtained by WDBJ7 reveals more details about the alleged offense with a video camera recording. Investigators found 28 video recordings on the SD card that show Wilson setting the camera up and then walking by it several times, “looking directly into the camera.” The recorded videos of the child were sexual in nature.
Wilson is currently out on bail and is set to appear for a jury trial August 21.
